Inventors include Dr. N. A. Natraj; and Dr. Madhavi Damle.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT IOT-BASED SMART WATER METER SYSTEM FOR CONSUMPTION MONITORING, LEAK DETECTION AND DEMAND FORECASTING An IoT-based smart water meter system (100) for urban water utilities is disclosed. A flow sensor (110) measures volumetric water flow at litre-per-minute resolution, and a microcontroller unit (120) with a real-time clock (122) timestamps and integrates the flow. A leak detection module (130) confirms an in-premise leak when a non-zero flow below a configurable minimum-occupancy threshold persists beyond a configurable overnight quiet window, and generates a leak alert payload (200) carrying leak rate and duration. A demand forecasting module (140) generates a twenty-four hour consumption forecast from a historical consumption database (142) for utility pressure management. A communication module (150) transmits data to a cloud platform (170); a consumer mobile interface (180) shows consumption with conservation advisories; and a utility integration interface (190) supplies tamper-evident records, held in local memory (126), for billing. Parameters are remotely configurable without hardware modification. [
