Abstract: The present invention relates to an IoT-based smart vehicular emission monitoring and automated air quality control system for traffic junctions. The system comprises distributed roadside IoT sensing nodes, pollutant sensors, atmospheric sensors, traffic-monitoring sensors, an edge-processing controller, a communication subsystem, a remote analytical platform, and one or more controllable traffic or air-treatment devices. The sensing nodes obtain pollutant concentrations and atmospheric parameters while the traffic-monitoring subsystem determines vehicle count, vehicle movement, queue length, waiting duration, vehicle classification, and related traffic characteristics. The edge-processing controller correlates the traffic and environmental information to determine localized emission conditions and identify an associated traffic approach or monitoring zone. A control subsystem automatically modifies traffic-signal parameters, activates or adjusts air-treatment equipment, or performs coordinated control according to the determined condition. The system further provides predictive analysis, spatial pollutant assessment, atmospheric- dispersion analysis, sensor validation, historical data processing, and closed-loop verification of control responses. Subsequent environmental measurements are compared with pre-control conditions to determine whether the applied action is effective. The invention thereby provides an integrated IoT-based mechanism for monitoring vehicular emissions and automatically controlling localized air-quality conditions at traffic junctions.
