Abstract: ABSTRACT IOT-BASED SMART NEONATAL VITAL SIGN MONITORING SYSTEM WITH NON-CONTACT RESPIRATION SENSING AND AUTOMATED APNOEA ALERT An IoT-based smart neonatal vital sign monitoring system (100) comprising a non-contact radar respiratory sensor module (110) positioned above a neonatal incubator to detect chest wall movement and compute respiratory rate without skin contact, a pulse oximetry module (120) for concurrent heart rate and SpO2 monitoring, an edge processing unit (130) executing an apnoea classification engine (134) that distinguishes true respiratory pause from sensor signal dropout using signal quality validation and triggers a nursing station alert module (160) within five seconds of confirmed apnoea onset, a bedside display unit (140) rendering concurrent vital sign trend graphs, and a cloud platform (150) maintaining timestamped vital sign records with apnoea event logs. The system eliminates chest-contact respiratory electrodes, reducing iatrogenic skin injury in premature neonates while maintaining equivalent apnoea detection sensitivity through radar-based non-contact sensing integrated with edge intelligence and cloud connectivity.
