Inventors include Rishabh Singh; Nikhil Pal; Dr. Vani Bhargava; and Dr. J. G Yadav.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses an IoT-based smart energy metering system for real-time monitoring and electricity theft detection. The system comprises a dual-point sensing module (100) including supply-side and load-side voltage and current sensors (101–104) for simultaneous measurement of electrical parameters. A signal conditioning unit (150) converts analog signals into digital data, which is processed by a microcontroller-based processing unit (200) to compute real-time power and identify discrepancies. An intelligent analytics engine (250) detects anomalies based on threshold and persistence evaluation. An IoT communication module (300) transmits data and alerts to remote servers, while an anti-tamper unit (400) detects physical interference. A data storage module (500) ensures local logging, and a control module (700) enables preventive action including load isolation. The invention provides accurate, real-time detection of electricity theft with improved reliability, reduced false positives, and enhanced energy management efficiency.
