Abstract: ABSTRACT [0016] A Smart Dustbin is an automatic waste management system designed to improve cleanliness and hygiene by reducing direct human contact with the dustbin. With the increasing need for a clean and healthy environment, this project aims to promote proper waste disposal through automation. The system mainly consists of an Arduino Uno, ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, 6V battery, and jumper wires. The ultrasonic sensor continuously detects the presence of a user's hand or any object placed near the dustbin. When an object is detected within a specified distance, the sensor sends a signal to the Arduino Uno, which processes the information and controls the servo motor to open the dustbin lid automatically. After a few seconds, the lid closes on its own, providing a touch-free and hygienic waste disposal experience. [0017] The system is powered by a 6V battery, making it portable, energy-efficient, and easy to use in different locations. It is a simple and cost- effective project that demonstrates the practical application of embedded systems and automation in solving everyday problems. The Smart Dustbin is suitable for use in homes, schools, hospitals, offices, shopping malls, and other public places, where maintaining cleanliness is essential. It helps reduce the spread of germs, encourages proper waste disposal habits, and improves overall sanitation. In conclusion, the Smart Dustbin is an efficient, user-friendly, and economical solution that promotes better hygiene, supports cleaner surroundings, and contributes to a healthier and more sustainable environment.
