Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart attendance system for automated, contactless, and real-time attendance management using facial recognition technology. The system comprises an ESP32-CAM image acquisition unit, Wi-Fi communication interface, backend facial recognition and attendance validation unit, cloud database, and web-based monitoring dashboard. The ESP32-CAM captures facial images and transmits them through Wi-Fi to the backend, where face detection, feature extraction, and matching with registered facial data are performed to identify individuals. Upon successful verification, attendance is automatically recorded with date and time in the cloud database while preventing duplicate entries for the same session. An OLED display provides real-time status information, including connectivity, identification, attendance confirmation, and unknown-face detection. The web dashboard enables authorized users to register students, monitor attendance, view analytics, generate reports, manage student data, and monitor device status. The integrated system reduces manual intervention and recording errors while providing a low-cost, scalable, remotely accessible solution for automated attendance management in educational institutions, offices, training centres, and similar environments.
