Abstract: An intelligent fault detection system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) concept for real-time electrical safety management is presented, which utilizes the ESP32 microcontroller, cloud Analytics and machine learning methodologies for power monitoring. Most traditional systems lack the ability to detect faults quickly and give predictions of their forthcoming consequences; they also cannot be accessed remotely, leading to damage of equipment and disruption to operation. The proposed design is based on analog sensing circuits to continuously monitor voltage and current parameters, which are classified under five operational conditions – Normal, Inrush, Overload, Short Circuit and Undervoltage. A priority-based decision tree algorithm is used and a protective mechanism in the form of a relay-based load isolation and buzzer notification is automatically turned on. Using an interactive dashboard, the data are relayed to the Thing Speak cloud platform for visualization, storage and remote supervision. The prototype module mainly consists of an ESP32 and relay modules, current sensing modules, voltage sensing and cloud communication modules. The experimental assessment confirms both quick response and intelligent prediction of failures and high classification accuracy, which highlight the potential applications to industrial automation, smart houses and intelligent energy management systems.
