MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441098181 A) filed by R. Dhivya; and Cmr Institute Of Technology on December 12, 2024, for Iot-Based Emergency Vehicle Sound Detection And Traffic Signal Preemption Using Artificial Intelligence For Prioritization.
Inventors include R. Dhivya; and Cmr Institute Of Technology.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an innovative IoT-based Emergency Vehicle Prioritization System (E-ViPS) designed to enhance urban mobility and safety by dynamically prioritizing emergency vehicles in real-time. E-ViPS utilizes sound detection sensors installed at intersections to continuously monitor ambient noise levels and employs machine learning algorithms to accurately identify emergency vehicle sirens amidst surrounding traffic noise. Once a siren is detected, the system triggers real-time adjustments to traffic signals, providing a green light to the emergency vehicle while managing surrounding traffic to ensure safety and minimize disruptions. The system incorporates edge computing for low latency data processing, enabling rapid decision-making at the intersection level, and utilizes wireless communication protocols for seamless coordination across multiple intersections in an urban network. This technology allows E-ViPS to adapt dynamically to real-time changes in traffic conditions, road closures, and other factors that may impact emergency vehicle movement. By reducing delays and optimizing traffic flow, E-ViPS significantly improves emergency response times, reduces traffic congestion, and enhances overall road safety, contributing to more efficient and safer urban environments.
