Abstract: The present invention discloses an Internet of Things (IoT)-based driver alertness monitoring and accident prevention system (100) configured to continuously monitor a driver's alertness and surrounding vehicle conditions to improve road safety. The system comprises a driver monitoring module including a USB camera (104), a MEMS sensor (106), an ultrasonic sensor (108), a microcontroller unit (110), a machine learning module (112), an alert module (114), a relay module (118), an LCD display (120), an IoT communication module (122), and a power supply module (124). The USB camera captures real-time facial images for detecting eye closure, blinking frequency, and head movement, while the MEMS sensor and ultrasonic sensor monitor vehicle motion and obstacle proximity. The microcontroller processes the acquired data using a machine learning algorithm to determine the driver's alertness and identify unsafe driving conditions. Upon detecting drowsiness, abnormal vehicle motion, or potential collision risks, the system activates audio, vibration, and visual alerts to warn the driver and transmits emergency notifications with vehicle information through the IoT communication module. The invention provides a compact, reliable, cost-effective, and energy-efficient solution for real-time driver monitoring, intelligent accident prevention, and rapid emergency response, making it suitable for passenger vehicles, commercial transportation, fleet management, and intelligent transportation systems.
