Abstract: The present invention provides an innovative medical device designed for the effective cleaning of intravenous (IV) cannulas, which are commonly used for the administration of fluids, medications, or blood products in clinical settings. The device consists of a slender, shallow, and elongated tubular body that is dimensioned to fit within the internal lumen of standard IV cannulas. One end of the tube is securely fitted with an absorbent cleaning material, such as sterile cotton or a soft fiber pad, which serves as the primary cleaning interface. The device is inserted into the cannula, and as it is advanced and rotated manually, the cotton-covered tip gently scrubs the inner walls of the cannula, removing residual blood, medication buildup, or other contaminants. The cleaner is intended for single-use to maintain sterility and minimize cross-contamination risks. The tubular body may be made from medical-grade plastic or similar biocompatible material, offering flexibility and ease of maneuverability while preventing damage to the cannula’s internal surfaces. This invention addresses the critical need for maintaining IV line hygiene, reducing the incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs), and potentially extending the usability of cannulas in both emergency and long-term care scenarios. The IV Cannula Cleaner is especially valuable in settings where replacement of cannulas may be difficult or undesirable, and where maintaining patency and cleanliness of the IV line is essential.
