MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631071424 A) filed by Kalinga Institute Of Industrial Technology Kiit Deemed To Be University on June 09, 2026, for Intravenous Cannula Cap With Contamination Indicator.

Inventors include Bharti, Sweta; and Das, Minati.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: An intravenous cannula cap (100) includes a cap body (102) formed from a medical-grade polymer and a passive contamination indicator (104) embedded within the cap body (102). The passive contamination indicator (104) includes a pH-sensitive dye micro-layer configured to undergo a color change in response to environmental exposure conditions. A semi-permeable membrane (106) is disposed adjacent to the pH-sensitive dye micro-layer and configured to permit controlled interaction between the pH-sensitive dye micro-layer and an external environment. A connection portion (110) is configured to engage with a catheter hub of an intravenous cannula. The passive contamination indicator (104) transitions from a first color state indicating sterile conditions to a second color state indicating an alert condition upon exposure to air beyond a predetermined duration, and to a third color state indicating an unsafe condition upon exposure to elevated contamination risk conditions.
