MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641086070 A) filed by Shaik Hasane Ahammad; and Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation on July 14, 2026, for Interrogating The Sufferings Of Tribal Community Issues Through Water (2002) By Maha Sweta Devi.
Inventors include Khaja Shahini Begum; and Dr. Bathina Rajesh Kumar.

Abstract: In the play Water (Devi, Mahasweta Devi, Water, Trans, Samik Bandyopadhyay, Calcutta: Seagull, 2002), the character Maghai represents a symbol of confrontation. He is a spokesperson of millions of Adivasi clans who are combating subjugation and are bold enough to challenge imperialism and patriarchy. The subalterns are marginalized in more ways than one as they live in constant fear of victimization. Mahasweta Devi rededicates herself in her commitment to representing the problems of the marginalised sections in different formats. In the play Water, she finds an occasion to represent the issues related to marginality. It first appeared in Bengali as a short story Jawl; Mahasweta Devi changed it into a play during the years 1976-77. She presents the shade of exploitation in different dimensions, giving importance to the conditions of rural life.
