Abstract: The present invention relates to an Intelligent Power Theft Detection System designed to identify unauthorized electricity consumption, meter tampering, illegal electrical connections, abnormal load behaviour, and other forms of non-technical power loss in electrical distribution networks. The system comprises electrical sensing units, smart meters, communication modules, a data processing unit, an intelligent theft detection module, a risk assessment module, and an alert generation unit. Electrical parameters including voltage, current, power, energy consumption, power factor, load variation, and meter status are continuously acquired from consumer and distribution-level measurement points. The collected data is transmitted to a local, edge-based, centralized, cloud-based, or hybrid processing platform for preprocessing and analysis. The intelligent detection module compares real-time consumption data with historical usage patterns, expected load behaviour, and feeder or transformer-level energy measurements to identify abnormal deviations associated with possible electricity theft. Machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, anomaly detection, or rule-based mechanisms may be employed for classification of suspicious events. A risk assessment module assigns a theft probability or severity level based on the magnitude, frequency, and duration of detected abnormalities. When a suspicious condition exceeds a predefined or dynamically determined threshold, the system automatically generates an alert containing relevant consumer, meter, location, and event information. The proposed invention enables continuous and automated theft monitoring, reduces dependence on manual inspections, improves billing accuracy, minimizes non-technical losses, enhances revenue protection, and supports secure, reliable, and efficient operation of modern electrical power distribution and smart-grid systems.
