MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641107115 A) filed by Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation on September 06, 2026, for Intelligent Orthopedic Bone Drilling System For Thermal Damage Mitigation.

Inventors include Valiveti Gnana Deep; Achanta Surya Dhiraj; Arumalla Bhavishya; Gudeti Namrata; and S. Shanmugan.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an orthopedic bone drilling system and method for optimizing drilling parameters to control temperature generated during bone drilling and mitigate thermal damage to bone tissue. The method considers drill bit diameter, feed rate, and spindle speed as drilling parameters and temperature as a response variable. A Taguchi L27 orthogonal array is employed to systematically evaluate combinations of the drilling parameters. Experimental temperature data are analyzed using Response Surface Methodology, regression analysis, and Analysis of Variance to develop a second-order quadratic predictive model. The model is utilized to determine an optimized combination of drilling parameters corresponding to reduced drilling temperature, thereby reducing the risk of thermal injury and osteonecrosis during orthopedic drilling.
