MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113254 A) filed by Saveetha Engineering College on September 22, 2026, for Intelligent Machine Vision Inspection Controller And Closed-Loop Defect Management System For Smt Printed Circuit Board Assemblies.

Inventors include Dr. G. Karthika; and Dr. J. Anish Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an AI-based machine vision inspection and closed-loop defect management system for SMT printed circuit board assemblies. The system comprises a conveyor, PCB presence sensor, controlled LED illumination, machine-vision camera, image acquisition module, Al processing module, decision- making module, controller PCB, communication module, PLC, HMI and reject actuator. The PCB presence sensor detects a PCB assembly and initiates controlled illumination and camera triggering. The captured image is analysed by the Al processing module to identify defects or abnormal conditions. A decision-making module generates PASS, FAIL or WARNING status and communicates the result to the HMI and PLC. Based on the result, the system may initiate reinspection, generate an alarm or activate a reject actuator. The system thereby provides an integrated and automated closed-loop mechanism for SMT PCB inspection, defect detection, decision making and rejection.
