Abstract: An intelligent laser welding apparatus with dynamic heat input control for high-strength metal joining is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a laser delivery arrangement with a modulatable-power source, a high-speed beam deflection scanner commanding programmable oscillation patterns, adjustable focus, and selectable core-and-ring transverse power distribution, giving authority over the amount, spatial distribution, and timing of heat deposited in the joint. A sensing arrangement, including an emissivity-compensated thermal imaging sensor, coaxial melt pool and keyhole observation, and a trailing cooling-rate sensor, is fused by a state estimator with a reduced-order thermal model and trained machine learning models into a real-time estimate of the thermal state. A heat input controller regulates power, modulation, beam pattern, and focus in closed loop, with feed-forward compensation of heat accumulation and geometry, holding the joint upon a reference thermal trajectory that secures penetration while confining peak temperature and cooling rate, and bounding interfacial exposure in dissimilar joints, within windows established for joint strength, with per-joint thermal certification.
