The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: Nowadays, the most people have chronic diseases and need to take medications regularly. Thus, the schedule is the key for the successful treatment. The main problem is the elderly people find it hard to take their medicines on time as they don’t know their medication schedules and which medicine needs to be taken when. This leads to less efficient treatment and the use of expired medicines increases health risks. To address this issue, we suggest an IoT based Smart Medicine Reminder and Expiry Alert System. The proposed system consists of ESP32 microcontroller, IR sensors, LEDs, LCD display and buzzer which provides timely medicine reminders as well as communicates with cloud server. The caretaker enters the medicine schedule and expiry dates through web application. The ESP32 fetches this information from the cloud and makes the reminders at the scheduled times. The IR sensor detects pillbox opening, updates medicine status in the cloud and alerts the caretaker if a dose is missed. The system also tracks expiry date of medicines and gives alerts before expiry of medicines. Also, it minimizes the risk of missed doses and the use of expired drugs. The suggested system enhances patient adherence to medication and enables remote patient monitoring thru connectivity to the cloud. To summarize, the system offers an efficient and practical solution for smart healthcare applications.
