MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641109803 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology, Ramapuram Campus; and Easwari Engineering College on September 13, 2026, for Intelligent Geopolymer Manhole Cover With Passive Multi-Stage Damage Visualisation Network And Autonomous Structural Health Indication System.

Inventors include Ms. Frieda F. S; and Ms. Pavithra S.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an Intelligent Geopolymer Manhole Cover incorporating a passive multi-stage damage visualisation network configured to autonomously indicate structural health through visible colour transformation without requiring electrical power, electronic sensors, wireless communication devices, or external monitoring systems. The manhole cover comprises a geopolymer matrix produced from Ground Granular Blast Furnace Slag and bagasse ash, reinforced with basalt microfibres and integrated with a damage visualisation network consisting of pigment-filled microchannels, stress-memory sacrificial layers, and damage- responsive colour reservoirs. Upon the occurrence of structural distress, crack initiation, crack propagation, excessive loading, fatigue damage, or material degradation, the embedded visualisation system activates and generates visible colour patterns corresponding to the location and severity of damage. The colour transformation provides a direct visual assessment of structural condition, enabling rapid inspection and maintenance without specialised equipment. The invention significantly improves infrastructure safety, reduces inspection costs, enhances service life prediction, and provides a sustainable solution for intelligent urban utility infrastructure.
