Abstract: An Intelligent Agricultural Waste Sorting System has been designed for separating and utilized of mixed agricultural waste using computer vision, artificial intelligence, sensor technology, and automatic control of mechanical systems. The system is capable of detecting rice straw, coconut shell, corn husks, leaves, crop residue, branches and unintended impurities such as plastic, soil and stone. Mixed agricultural wastes are fed to conveyor-based inspection station. Image will be acquired using camera; images will be processed to improve quality by some image processing technique then individual waste material type (rice straw, coconut shell, corn husks, leaves, crop residue, branches) is detected along with its locations using Yolo-based object detection and classification algorithm. Differ from usual sorting systems which only detect materials type, the proposed system adds capability to inspect quality and contaminations condition. Such properties as colour, shape, texture, cracks, discolouration, surface state will be extracted from images. The properties of moisture and weight from sensors also taken into account. These features will be fed to Random Forest or XGBoost model that determine the quality score and contamination state. Based on identified type, quality, contamination and required use, a decision logic (intelligent) controller decides where to discard of those materials. The movement of the individual waste material on conveyor is identified and, along with conveyor velocity the actuation time will be computed for its controller (ESP32). The actuator selected between the servo motor driven mechanism, pneumatic air jets and mechanical diverter will push these sorted agricultural materials to appropriate bins. This system allows user to visualize, record, determine required resource and report about the performance of the system for efficient utilization of Agricultural Waste Resources Recovery.
