Abstract: The invention presents an adaptive, energy-efficient resource scheduling system and method for sustainable green cloud computing environments supporting heterogeneous Internet of Things (IoT) workloads. The system accepts IoT tasks and characterises each task in terms of computational requirements, memory requirements, priority, deadline, and latency requirements. Cloud resource parameters such as processor utilisation, memory availability, processing capacity, network latency, and energy consumption are continuously monitored. A smart scheduling module evaluates all candidate resources using an energy-QoS objective function and adaptively adjusts scheduling parameters according to the workload and resource conditions. An optimization module identifies an energy-efficient assignment of workloads, and a resource consolidation module migrates eligible workloads from resources that are operating at low utilization and places redundant resources into low-power states. A feedback mechanism monitors energy consumption, execution time, utilization, latency and migration overhead during runtime and updates future scheduling decisions. This invention thus facilitates dynamic workload-resource matchmaking, and provides ways to minimize energy consumption, optimize resource utilization and ensure that the quality of service requirements are satisfied in a sustainable IoT–cloud computing setting.
