MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621079914 A) filed by Parul University Parul Institute Of Engineering And Technology on June 29, 2026, for Intelligent Abrasive Water Jet Machining System With Statistical Optimization And Machine Learning Prediction For Brittle Materials.

Inventors include Saranya S; Balaji K; Mehulkumar Gor; and Robinson S.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: An intelligent abrasive water jet machining system for precision machining of brittle materials comprises a parameter input unit configured to receive abrasive flow rate, nozzle traverse speed, and stand-off distance; a statistical optimization unit comprising a Pearson correlation analysis module for calculating correlation coefficients between process variables and machining responses, and an F-test feature importance ranking module for identifying dominant parameters; a machine learning prediction unit employing k-nearest neighbor classification trained on experimental data to forecast machining quality before operations by calculating Euclidean distance and majority vote classification; and a control unit for adaptive parameter selection based on classification results. The system achieves 86-93% prediction accuracy with optimal k=1 configuration demonstrating 93.75% accuracy, perfect specificity, and 87.2% sensitivity. The invention reduces kerf deviation, improves dimensional accuracy, minimizes experimental dependency, and enhances process repeatability for precision machining of glass, ceramics, and composites in aerospace, biomedical, optical, and industrial applications.
