MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611096075 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 08, 2026, for Integrated Smart System For Autonomous Detection, Mapping, And Visual Indication Of Sub-Surface Utility Faults.
Inventors include Raju Kumar; and Nitin Raj.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent concealed utility monitoring system for detecting, accurately locating, and mitigating faults in hidden electrical wiring and water pipelines within building structures. The system comprises distributed sensing meshes surrounding the concealed utilities, a main control unit, and a Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR)-based fault localization module configured to determine the exact fault location using reflected signal analysis. A visual indication layer provides localized fault indication through color change or equivalent visual means, enabling non-destructive identification of damaged regions. A hybrid safety interlock automatically disconnects electrical power when water leakage is detected near electrical wiring, while a self-healing mechanism provides temporary fault mitigation. The system further incorporates an energy harvesting unit for battery-free operation and a communication module for transmitting real-time fault information to a user device. The invention improves safety, reduces maintenance costs, minimizes structural damage, and enhances the reliability of concealed utility infrastructure.
