Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is an integrated sanitation system comprising a toilet assembly supported on a base divided by a fluid-impermeable partition into wet and dry compartments. A pretreatment unit and a microbial fuel cell reactor are carried by a removable service tray within the wet compartment and are connected in series with a waste outlet of the toilet assembly. An electrical-energy storage unit and a power-conditioning circuit are disposed within the dry compartment and are electrically connected to the microbial fuel cell reactor. A service interlock is coupled to the service tray so that withdrawal of the service tray causes an upstream waste valve to be closed and an electrical connector to be disconnected before fluid couplings of the pretreatment unit and microbial fuel cell reactor are separated. Toilet wastewater is treated by the microbial fuel cell reactor, and generated electrical energy is conditioned and supplied for operation of a sanitation component.
