MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611071602 A) filed by Lohum Materials Private Limited on June 09, 2026, for Integrated Process For Lithium Recovery From Lithium-Aluminosilicate Materials Via Controlled Chlorination Roasting.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an integrated process for recovering lithium from lithium-aluminosilicate materials, particularly lithium-aluminosilicate glass-ceramic waste. The process comprises controlled chlorination roasting of lithium-aluminosilicate material with calcium chloride to convert lithium into water-soluble lithium chloride, followed by selective aqueous leaching, sequential impurity removal, concentration, and carbonation to obtain lithium carbonate. Transition metal impurities are removed through controlled precipitation, while calcium is selectively precipitated as calcium oxalate. The precipitated calcium oxalate is thermally decomposed and regenerated into calcium chloride for reuse in the roasting stage, thereby establishing a closed-loop calcium regeneration system. The process enables lithium recovery efficiencies exceeding 95% and production of battery-grade lithium carbonate having purity greater than or equal to 99.9 wt%. The process further reduces reagent consumption, minimizes chloride-containing waste discharge, eliminates solvent extraction, and enables near zero-waste processing.
