MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411095477 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on December 04, 2024, for Integrated Phytoremediation Matrix For Heavy Metal Extraction And Soil Rejuvenation.

Inventors include Prasann Kumar; Mastu Patel; and Polu Picheswara Rao.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: The invention provides an integrated phytoremediation matrix for the efficient extraction of heavy metals from contaminated soils while simultaneously rejuvenating soil health. The system combines hyperaccumulator plants, engineered microbial consortia, and organic amendments in a multi-layered design to absorb and transform toxic metals, such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic, into less bioavailable forms. Organic materials like biochar and compost enhance soil structure and promote microbial activity, while nitrogen-fixing bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi restore soil fertility. Periodic harvesting of the plants allows for the extraction and recycling of absorbed metals, creating a closed-loop system. This sustainable and scalable solution enables the remediation of contaminated lands, improving soil fertility and supporting sustainable agriculture.
