MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611101514 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 22, 2026, for Integrated Photovoltaic Module For Simultaneous Electricity Generation And Atmospheric Water Harvesting.
Inventors include Indu Gupta; and Neha Paliwal.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an integrated photovoltaic module configured to simultaneously generate electrical energy and harvest potable water from atmospheric humidity through a passive, energy-efficient process. The system comprises photovoltaic cells, a passive radiative cooling layer, a nanostructured hydrophilic condensation surface, gravity-assisted water collection micro channels, a filtration unit, environmental sensors, an IoT communication module, and an AI-based monitoring platform. During daytime, the photovoltaic cells convert solar energy into electricity while the passive radiative cooling layer dissipates excess heat, reducing module temperature, improving conversion efficiency, and extending module lifespan. During night time or high-humidity conditions, atmospheric moisture condenses on the cooled hydrophilic surface and is collected through integrated micro channels into a storage reservoir after filtration. Embedded sensors continuously monitor operational parameters, while AI algorithms predict performance, optimize water production, detect faults, and support maintenance, enabling reliable operation for remote, agricultural, urban, and disaster-relief applications without external energy for water harvesting.
