MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611086400 A) filed by Chandigarh University on July 15, 2026, for Integrated Packed Bed Reactor For Simultaneous Hydrogenation And Trans-Fat Adsorption.

Inventor includes Anjali.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an integrated packed bed hydrogenation reactor configured to perform catalytic hydrogenation and in-situ adsorption of reaction- generated trans-fat compounds within a single reactor vessel. The reactor comprises feed inlet, a hydrogen inlet, a catalytic reaction zone containing an iron oxide catalyst, an adsorption zone containing activated charcoal, porous retaining members, internal flow distributors, and a product outlet. Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrogenated in the catalytic reaction zone, while trans-fat compounds formed during the reaction are continuously adsorbed in the downstream adsorption zone before discharge. The integrated configuration eliminates the need for separate adsorption equipment, minimizes catalyst fouling, prolongs catalyst service life, enhances hydrogen utilization and reaction efficiency, and improves product quality by reducing trans-fat content. The reactor further decreases energy consumption, equipment footprint, and operating costs, making it suitable for hydrogenation of edible oils and other industrial hydrogenation applications requiring simultaneous catalytic conversion and selective by-product removal.
