MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641123914 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 16, 2026, for Integrated Iot Smart Helmet With Haptic Driver Assistance, Crash Verification, Mesh Emergency Signaling, And Anti-Theft Tracking.
Inventors include Dr. Sunija A P; Vaidant Sharma; Raj Kishore Sahu; Gautam Krishna Kumar; and Dr. Gayathri S.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an integrated IoT-enabled smart helmet system for enhancing motorcycle rider safety, emergency response, and asset security. The system comprises an inertial measurement unit, proximity sensors, a ground proximity sensor, a microcontroller, warning indicators, a siren, and a Bluetooth Low Energy communication interface. A compliance interlock verifies helmet wearing and chin-strap fastening before enabling riding safety functions. A radar-based advanced driver assistance system determines collision risk and provides directional warnings. A multi-modal crash verification process sequentially evaluates inertial impact, orientation, ground proximity, and temporal motionlessness to reduce false alarms, followed by a cancellable emergency countdown. Upon crash confirmation, emergency information is transmitted through a connected smartphone or an encrypted BLE beacon relay. During a parked state, inertial wake-up detection, proximity-based owner authentication, and encrypted crowdsourced BLE tracking provide anti-theft protection.
