MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108228 A) filed by Pragati Engineering College on September 09, 2026, for Integrated Harbor Surveillance And Vessel Tracking System For Encroachment Detection, Violation Reporting, And Port Management.
Inventors include Dr. Prasanth Varasala; Mr. M Ravi Kumar; Mr. Chembrolu Satish; and Mrs. B Vasantha Lakhsmi.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The proposed invention presents an intelligent system for detecting encroachment and reporting violations in harbor and port operations through confidence-gated, multi-sensor vessel surveillance, followed by adaptive violation reporting and enforcement optimization. The system uses a marine radar sensor, an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver, a thermal/pan-tilt-zoom optical camera array, a sonar or underwater intrusion sensor, an edge processing unit, and a wireless communication module. During harbor monitoring, sensor signals are captured continuously and fused in real time to compute a Violation Probability Index with a confidence score. Whenever the confidence score falls below a threshold, the system flags the corresponding vessel or zone for secondary verification instead of a low- confidence classification. The collected data is compiled into a confidence-weighted encroachment map — green for compliant, yellow for uncertain, and red for confirmed violation — helping the harbor control operator identify the location and likelihood of violations such as restricted-zone encroachment, unauthorized fishing, anchorage breach, and unregistered vessel entry without continuous manual patrol of the entire harbor. Based on this map, the system adaptively determines the violation reporting and enforcement response, such as patrol dispatch priority and alert escalation, applied only to the flagged high-risk vessels or zones instead of the entire harbor. The proposed system reduces unnecessary patrol dispatch and false alarms, enables early violation detection, and contributes to reliable, audit-grade port security and traffic management.
