Abstract: Integrated and improved process for production of bioethanol from microalgal biomass The present invention relates to an integrated process for the production of bioethanol from microalgal biomass, particularly Chlorella species. The process comprises subjecting dried microalgal biomass to microwave pretreatment to disrupt the cell wall and enhance the release of intracellular carbohydrates, followed by sterilization. The pretreated biomass is inoculated with Aspergillus niger to carry out in situ enzymatic saccharification through the production of hydrolytic enzymes. After saccharification, the medium is inoculated with Saccharomyces cerevisiae for fermentation of the released sugars into ethanol under anaerobic conditions. The process is carried out sequentially within a single system, thereby eliminating the need for multiple reactors and external enzyme addition. The method provides an efficient and simplified approach for bioethanol production with improved utilization of microalgal biomass. Fig.1.
