Abstract: The present invention relates to an instrumented apparatus and associated method for quantitatively evaluating paste drain-down behaviour in fresh pervious concrete and other permeable cementitious mixtures. The apparatus comprises a test chamber configured to receive a fresh cementitious mixture, an interchangeable perforated plate positioned below the mixture for retaining coarse aggregate while permitting separated cementitious paste to pass therethrough, and a tapered drain funnel arranged to direct the drained paste toward a collection tray. The collection tray is operatively associated with a precision load cell for measuring the mass of collected paste as a function of time. A data acquisition and control arrangement records the measured drainage response, and a vibration module may be provided for subjecting the mixture to controlled mechanical excitation during testing. In operation, paste migrating through the aggregate skeleton passes through the perforated plate, is directed by the funnel to the collection tray, and is gravimetrically monitored over time. The recorded measurements provide a time-dependent paste drain-down response for determining drained paste mass and drainage behaviour, thereby enabling quantitative assessment of paste stability and segregation tendency in fresh pervious concrete mixtures.
