Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is an institutional intake apparatus for sequenced admission-document and fee-payment capture. A housing defines a document inlet, payment- access region, and receipt outlet. A document carriage moves along a guide path from a loading position to a capture position, and opposed centering guides move concurrently toward a document carried thereon. An optical capture assembly is registered with the carriage at the capture position. Carriage movement operates a linked shutter to expose the optical capture assembly and actuates an interlock that uncovers an adjacent payment reader only when the capture position is reached. In response to payment authorization, a receipt transport advances a generated receipt through the receipt outlet, thereby physically coordinating document positioning, optical capture access, payment access, and receipt delivery in a prescribed intake sequence.
