Abstract: A thermally managed compact antenna array for 5G massive MIMO systems is disclosed. A baseband processing unit (12) and digital beamforming engine (14) generate precoded signals that are converted and filtered by an RF transceiver chain (16) and amplified by power amplifiers and low-noise amplifiers (18). An analog beamforming network (20) comprising phase shifters and splitters feeds a compact patch antenna array (22) having 32, 64 or 128 elements arranged in an 8×8 or 16×16 configuration. Thermal conductive sheets and a heat sink (24), incorporating graphene-coated copper heat spreaders, embedded microchannel cooling pathways and temperature sensors, dissipate heat generated by the RF modules and antenna elements. A microcontroller-based thermal management unit dynamically adjusts cooling whenever predefined temperature thresholds are exceeded, reducing hotspot temperature by approximately 25 to 40 percent while maintaining radiation efficiency above 85 percent and a peak gain of about 21.2 dBi.
