Abstract: ABSTRACT [501] Traditional architecture reflects the climatic, environmental, cultural, and material conditions of a region and has evolved through locally appropriate design practices. However, rapid urbanization and changing lifestyles have led to the increasing replacement of traditional architectural features with modern house forms. This study investigates the innovative integration of traditional architectural design features into modern houses in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, with a focus on preserving climate responsiveness, sustainability, and traditional architectural character. [502] The study examines prominent architectural design features of traditional houses, including sloping roof, courtyards, living room, front and back veranda, window, and attic, and explores their relevance in modern house design. Through a case study approach, selected traditional houses in Sawantwadi are analysed to understand how traditional principles can be adapted to present-day functional, environmental, and aesthetic requirements. [503] the research aims to identify design strategies that maintain thermal comfort, reduce dependence on mechanical systems, encourage sustainable practices, and retain the visual and spatial qualities associated with the region’s traditional architecture. The findings are expected to demonstrate that traditional architectural principles can be reinterpreted rather than replicated, providing a context-sensitive approach to modern housing that balances modern needs with environmental performance, sustainability, and regional architectural identity.
