MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611087757 A) filed by Diksha; Dr. Prevesh Kumar; Dr. Neelkant Prasad; and Dr. Navneet Verma on July 17, 2026, for Inhalable Dry Powder Formulation Of Exosome-Encapsulated Antisense Oligonucleotides For Pulmonary Fibrosis Treatment.
Inventors include Diksha; Dr. Prevesh Kumar; Dr. Neelkant Prasad; and Dr. Navneet Verma.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an inhalable dry powder pharmaceutical composition comprising exosome-encapsulated antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) for the treatment and/or prevention of pulmonary fibrosis. The composition comprises exosomes loaded with ASOs targeting one or more fibrosis-associated genes, together with one or more cryoprotectants, bulking agents, aerosolization enhancers, and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers to produce a stable respirable dry powder suitable for administration using a dry powder inhaler. The formulation exhibits high encapsulation efficiency, preserved exosome integrity, favorable aerodynamic properties, efficient deep lung deposition, and sustained pulmonary release of the antisense oligonucleotides. The disclosure further provides a method for preparing the inhalable dry powder formulation by exosome loading, stabilization, lyophilization or spray drying, and blending with inhalation excipients. The composition enables targeted pulmonary delivery, enhances therapeutic efficacy, reduces systemic exposure, and offers a promising non-invasive approach for the management of pulmonary fibrosis.
