MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611083848 A) filed by Chandigarh University on July 08, 2026, for Infrastructure-Integrated Zero-Power Soil Moisture Signaling System For Visual Irrigation Management.

Inventors include Kush Kumar; Aditya Kumar; and Raju Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an infrastructure-integrated, zero-power soil moisture signaling system for visual irrigation management. The system comprises a subterranean sensing assembly having a hydro-responsive core enclosed within a semi- permeable membrane and a root-guard sleeve, wherein the core expands and contracts according to soil moisture. A vertical mechanical linkage transfers this movement to an above-ground signaling assembly including a movable multi-tier color sleeve and a stationary retroreflective core enclosed within a transparent protective dome, thereby providing clear daytime and nighttime moisture indication. The system further incorporates a mechanical drought memory indicator, an integrated rainwater harvesting funnel, and a detachable plug-and-play sensing cartridge for simplified maintenance without excavation. The invention enables reliable, electricity- free soil moisture monitoring for roadside plantations, transportation corridors, municipal landscapes, and agricultural fields while reducing irrigation water consumption, maintenance requirements, and operational costs.
