MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611099305 A) filed by Noida International University on August 17, 2026, for Infection-Sensing Oral Antibiotic Capsule With Biomarker-Responsive Drug Release.
Inventors include Kumari Sonu; Raman Yadav; Kapil; Nidhi Srivastava; and Sameer Rastogi.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: An infection-sensing oral antibiotic capsule comprises a gastro-resistant outer protective shell, a biomarker-responsive sensing layer, an antibiotic reservoir, and a signal-amplification system. The sensing layer responds to infection-associated biomarkers including bacterial enzymes, inflammatory mediators, reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, or microbial components. Biomarker detection causes structural alteration of the responsive layer by swelling, degradation or pore formation, enabling antibiotic release from the reservoir. Increased biomarker levels can increase antibiotic release, whereas declining levels reduce or stop release. The antibiotic reservoir may comprise antibiotic-loaded nanoparticles, microspheres, or a powder matrix. The capsule provides biomarker-dependent, site-specific antimicrobial delivery while limiting antibiotic exposure outside the responsive condition. The invention is applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing and antimicrobial therapy for disclosed urinary, gastrointestinal, secondary and hospital-acquired infections.
