Abstract: ABSTRACT Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is a standard supplement in animal cell culture, providing essential growth factors and nutrients; however, its use raises ethical concerns and batch variability issues. This study investigates the possibility of using clitellum-derived regenerative factors as. a viable alternative to FBS for reducing FBS usage. The clitellum, a glandular structure in organisms such as earthworms, produces a rich array of proteins and nutrients that may support-cell-growth:- Amputation- at· multiple-sites induced-clitellum·factors ·production (CF,- · RCF, DCF, 4-30 RCF and 4-30 DCF) which enhances cellular growth in cell culture. We conducted comparative analyses of cell viability, proliferation, and functionality between induced different clitellum factors and FBS across various cell lines. Our findings indicate that clitellum extracts can sustain cell growth similarly to FBS, with consistent results. The ethical and- sustainability implications of this alternative source; emphasizing its potential to lessen reliance on bovine-derived products. This investigation opens new avenues for developing sustainable and ethical practices in cell culture methodologies.
