Abstract: A computer-implemented method for modifying a simulation mesh file includes receiving coordinate-range data that specifies a three-dimensional spatial region of a mesh and condition-modification data that specifies an initial-condition modification or boundary-condition modification. An input mesh file is read, a mesh-element subdomain is identified, element coordinates are validated against an expected coordinate format, and the element coordinates are extracted. For mesh elements whose element coordinates satisfy the coordinate-range data, a mesh parameter is modified according to the condition-modification data and a modified mesh-element record is written to an output mesh file. For other mesh elements, an unmodified mesh-element record is written to the output mesh file so that mesh continuity and mesh topology are preserved. A count of modified mesh elements is updated, and an output mesh file containing a modified mesh is generated for use by a numerical simulator without external mesh-visualization selection.
