MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621091286 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay on July 27, 2026, for Implantable Drug-Delivery Reservoir And Method Of Preparation Thereof.
Inventors include Jayesh Ramesh Bellare; Rohit Srivastava; and Lisha Awasthi.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to an implantable drug-delivery reservoir 100 for localized and sustained delivery of at least one therapeutic agent. The reservoir 100 includes a porous reservoir wall 102 formed from at least one biodegradable polymer and enclosing a hollow lumen 104 containing the therapeutic agent. The reservoir wall 102 enables controlled diffusion of the therapeutic agent, while the biodegradable polymers undergo gradual degradation under physiological conditions to provide sustained release over a predetermined period. The therapeutic agent may be introduced into the hollow lumen after fabrication of the reservoir and retained therein by sealing the lumen. The reservoir 100 is fabricated in the form of a hollow fiber and may be implanted using minimally invasive techniques. The invention further relates to a method for preparing the reservoir 100 and its use for localized treatment of diseases requiring sustained local drug delivery.
