The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to biodegradable orthopaedic fixation implants. The implant (100) includes a biopolymer substrate (102) composed of a bacterial fermentation-derived copolyester produced from agricultural waste feedstock (202). A biogenic ceramic filler (104) extracted from marine biological sources (208) and retaining osteogenic trace elements is distributed within the biopolymer substrate (102). A bioactive surface coating (106) derived from crustacean shell waste is applied to external surfaces of the implant (100). A plurality of biodegradable radiopaque marker particles (108) extracted from oyster shell waste (210) is dispersed within the biopolymer substrate (102). Degradation products of the biopolymer substrate (102) trigger dissolution of the biogenic ceramic filler (104) releasing bone- mineral ions for new bone deposition. The bioactive surface coating (106) regulates degradation rate of the biopolymer substrate (102) to synchronize degradation of the implant (100) with bone formation at a site of implantation. FIG. 1
