Abstract: Training and development is the heart of any business and is important to an organization and its employees. The study “Training and Development in technical institutions” is conducted as there is a vital need of training and development to the faculty of technical institution so as to keep them self up to date with the latest methods and technology in the field of teaching. The objectives of the study are i) To study the training and development process among teaching staff of the technical education institutions. ii) To know how often and on what areas the training is given. ii) To analyse the effectiveness of training and development programs given to the teaching staff. iii) To analyse the effectiveness of training and development programs given to the teaching staff. iv) To offer suggestions based on the findings so as to enhance training and development activities in technical education institutions.With reference to this study, data is collected through questionnaire and observation method. Secondary data has been collected through books, journals, newspapers and internet. Sample size totally comprises of 100 Teachers working in different technical institutions. The data is analyzed through the percentage method. Pie diagrams are used as a graphical representation of data to give more meaning to the interpretation. This study is confined only to teachers of technical institutions. Teachers are been given training once in a year, some colleges are even training them every half yearly, they have been given both on the job and off the job training. Technical institution are identifying training needs of the teachers by performance appraisal. Methods like classroom lecture, workshops and presentations are used to give training inside the institution, FDPs, orientation, refresher programmes and workshops are used to give training outside the institution. Most of the teachers are satisfied with the training process and frequency of training, and training given inside and outside the institutions. Many Teachers have attended training on communication skills, teaching technologies, exam and evaluation, presentation skills and computer skills and would like to attend training on creative thinking, project and funding, event and stress management.
