The exchanges of contents are performed using one or more robotic fluid transfer actuators, operable to manipulate the one or more containers to prepare the pharmaceutical dose. The pharmaceutical preparation devices lock a pharmaceutical dose in preparation into place, unlocking it (to free it for its intended use) upon determining that the pharmaceutical dose includes (e.g., displays or otherwise presents) identifying data consistent with the specifications of the dose prepared.
