Abstract: An ignition system (100) for igniting a rocket engine is disclosed. The ignition system (100) comprises an igniter body (102) defining an igniter combustion chamber (104), a fuel inlet (106) configured to supply fuel, and an oxidizer inlet (108) configured to supply an oxidizer to the igniter combustion chamber (104). Ignition system (100) further comprises a doublet impinging injector assembly (118) having plurality of orifices (120) configured to receive the fuel and the oxidizer and introduce the fuel and the oxidizer into igniter combustion chamber (104) at fixed rates and fixed locations relative to the plurality of orifices (120). An ignition source (114) is positioned relative to an ignition region (110) of the igniter combustion chamber (104) to ignite propellant mixture. Nozzle (116), disposed downstream of the igniter combustion chamber (104), discharges combustion products as a flame jet toward a combustion chamber of rocket engine, thereby enabling reliable engine ignition.
