MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611076393 A) filed by Post Graduate Institute Of Medical Education And Research Pgimer on June 19, 2026, for Hysteroscopic Proximal Tubal Occlusion Device And System.

Inventors include Dr. Girija Shankar Mohanty; and Dr. Vanita Jain.

The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.

Abstract: A hysteroscopic proximal tubal occlusion device (110) and proximal tubal occlusion insertion system (100) are disclosed. The device (110) comprises a flexible, biocompatible, conical body made of a hydrophilic material, such as alginates including laminaria or silicone, and an occlusion-promoting agent comprising talc powder impregnated within or carried by the device (110). Upon non-invasive placement via a hysteroscopic route, the hydrophilic material absorbs body fluid and expands radially to provide immediate lumen obstruction within a proximal portion of a fallopian tube. The device (110) further provides sustained lumen closure through a localized tissue response associated with the occlusion-promoting agent, thereby providing a sequential dual-stage occlusion mechanism comprising immediate lumen obstruction followed by sustained lumen closure. The insertion system (100) includes a co-axial catheter (106) dimensioned for an operating channel of a hysteroscope and a slidably disposed stylet (108) configured to deploy the device (110) into the proximal portion of the fallopian tube. The invention facilitates hysteroscopic placement of a deployable implant for proximal tubal occlusion through a sequential dual-stage occlusion mechanism comprising immediate lumen obstruction followed by sustained lumen closure.
