Abstract: The Smart Drowning Prevention System is designed to provide safety against drowning by preventing that from occurring in swimming pools. It continuously monitors swimmers by using ultrasonic sensors and a wearable oxygen-monitoring device to ensure safe swimmer activity (i.e., identify unusual underwater activity, prolonged or excessive submersion, or difficulty in breathing) while submerged in water. In the event of a potential drowning emergency, the Smart Drowning Prevention System will automatically activate a motorized rescue net positioned below the surface of the Swimming Pool. The net will gently raise the swimmer to the surface of the water, allowing prompt assistance, thus minimizing the time for rescuing the swimmer. Manual activation of the rescue system will also be available at various strategic locations, allowing pool staff or lifeguards to activate/operate the rescue mechanism when required. The Smart Drowning Prevention System is equipped with a backup power supply, which will ensure continued operation in the event of an electrical failure. The features offered by the combination of continuous monitoring, rapid emergency response, manual activation, and backup power supply will increase the likelihood of the Smart Drowning Prevention System providing a successful solution to improving swimmer safety. This invention can be utilized in public swimming pools; training facilities for swimming; water parks; and/or recreational facilities where additional swimmer safety is a priority.
