MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611110324 A) filed by Chandigarh University on September 14, 2026, for Hybrid Thermal Backpack For Storage And Transportation Of Insulin And Temperature-Sensitive Pharmaceutical Products.

Inventors include Adityabir Singh; Simrandeep Singh; and Kaladhar Kamalasanan.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a hybrid thermal backpack system (100) for storage and transportation of insulin and other temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products under sub-zero and extreme cold conditions. The system comprises a thermally insulated backpack enclosure (101), a tray to carry insulin injections (102), and diode-type heat pipes array (103) extending between an evaporator section (104) and a condenser section (106). Phase change material blocks (107) store and progressively release thermal energy. Condenser fins (108) distribute heat within the storage chamber (101). Flow-check valves (112) provide directional vapor transport while restricting reverse vapor flow. A graphene-coated wick (113, 114) having spatially varying wettability facilitates capillary-driven liquid return. A hybrid heat-input arrangement employs a foldable graphite heat spreader (202) for receiving external heat and a polyimide heater (203) for electrical thermal charging. The system further incorporates temperature monitoring and geographical tracking and is configured for human-carried and unmanned aerial vehicle-based transportation.
