MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541028147 A) filed by N. Praveen Kumar on March 25, 2025, for Hybrid Space Propulsion System With Hinged Electromagnetic Repulsion And Differential Damping Mechanism.
Inventor includes N. Praveen Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: A hybrid space propulsion system enhances efficiency in spacecraft maneuvering by integrating an electromagnetic repulsion mechanism with a hinged actuator, a differential damping mechanism, and a conveyor reset mechanism. The electromagnetic repulsion mechanism, utilising opposing electromagnets and a hinge to store and release potential energy, imparts a forward impulse to a housing and a backward impulse to a movable mass. The differential damping mechanism, combining eddy dampers and a rocket propulsion system, retains the housing’s momentum while slowing the movable mass, delivering a net system impulse through controlled propellant ejection. A conveyor mechanism resets the movable mass using internal forces, enabling repeated cycles without additional propellant. This system achieves high thrust and reduced propellant mass compared to standalone rocket propulsion systems, suitable for applications such as orbital transfers and station-keeping.
