Abstract: ABSTRACT With increasing participation of renewable energy resources, the need to have a smart energy management strategy arises where two major points are: (1) managing intermittent nature of renewable sources, such as solar and wind, and (2) stabilizing the power grid performance. An intelligent energy management system (IEMS) for a grid connected hybrid renewable energy system consisting of PV generation, wind turbines, battery energy storage and flexible consumer loads is provided by the Internet of Things (IoT) enabled system presented in this paper. By employing real-time sensing infrastructure that continuously informs on the "state of service," the proposed framework can be used to predict electricity demand and renewable energy generation, which can be used to flexibly schedule load (adaptively) based on the calculated demand and supply. A dynamic energy dispatch process will be used to manage how the renewable resources are used and how they are coupled with storage and energy imports from third parties, with an objective of achieving as high contribution as possible from renewable resources as well as minimizing import of energy from third parties and the energy dispatch cost.
