Abstract: The present invention relates to a hybrid polymer–graphene nanocomposite sensor for ultralow-concentration volatile organic compound (VOC) detection. The sensor comprises a conductive electrode structure and a sensing layer formed by integrating a graphene-based nanomaterial with a functional polymer matrix. The graphene component provides a high surface area and conductive network, while the polymer provides functional sites for enhanced interaction and adsorption of VOC molecules. Upon exposure to VOCs, molecular adsorption alters the electrical characteristics of the nanocomposite, producing a measurable change in resistance, conductance, impedance, or capacitance. The electrical response is acquired and processed using a signal-conditioning and processing unit to estimate VOC concentration. The sensor may further incorporate temperature and humidity compensation, calibration, sensor-array configuration, machine-learning-based classification, and wireless communication for real-time monitoring. The proposed invention provides a compact, low-power, sensitive, and potentially selective sensing platform suitable for industrial VOC monitoring, indoor air-quality assessment, environmental pollution monitoring, chemical leakage detection, occupational safety, and IoT-enabled real-time VOC monitoring applications.
